Konica Minolta macOS 27 & 28 Print Driver Compatibility

Apple is making changes to Rosetta 2 that will affect existing Konica Minolta print drivers on Macs using Apple Silicon. If your organization uses a Konica Minolta printer or MFP with a Mac, there are some important considerations before upgrading to macOS 27 or macOS 28.

Important
Before upgrading macOS on a computer used for printing, we recommend verifying compatibility with your Konica Minolta device and current print driver.

What is changing with macOS 27?

Starting with macOS 27, Apple will automatically remove Rosetta 2.

Rosetta 2 allows software designed for Intel-based Macs to operate on Macs using Apple Silicon, including Apple's M-series processors. Current Konica Minolta macOS print drivers that rely on this compatibility layer may be affected when macOS is upgraded.

While applications can prompt users to reinstall Rosetta 2 when required, background processes such as legacy print drivers cannot.

As a result, Rosetta 2 may need to be manually reinstalled after upgrading to macOS 27 in order to maintain printing functionality.

Apple provides information about Rosetta 2 and installation on its support website:

What is changing with macOS 28?

Apple plans to discontinue the use of Rosetta with macOS 28.

To prepare for this change, Konica Minolta is developing a new macOS print driver that will operate natively on Apple Silicon and will not require Rosetta.

The initial release of the new driver is currently planned to coincide with the release of macOS 28, with an estimated timeframe of Fall 2027.

Because macOS 28 and the new print driver are still under development, availability and supported models may change before release.

What should Mac users do?

If you use a Konica Minolta device from a Mac, we recommend:

  • Do not upgrade a production Mac without first checking printer compatibility, particularly if printing is critical to your business.
  • If upgrading to macOS 27, be aware that Rosetta 2 may need to be manually reinstalled for the existing print driver to continue functioning.
  • If planning for macOS 28, your existing Rosetta-dependent print driver should not be assumed to remain compatible.
  • Check for updated Konica Minolta driver information closer to the release of macOS 28.
